Coalition for Clean Air (CCA) applauds Mayor Eric Garcetti for appointing Councilmember Nithya Raman to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Governing Board. CCA, along with a large coalition of community, environmental and environmental justice advocates, supported Councilmember Raman’s appointment.
“Millions of Southern Californians, especially those in marginalized communities, breathe air that fails to meet national and state air quality standards,” said Chris Chavez, Deputy Policy Director at Coalition for Clean Air. “Despite this, getting SCAQMD to pass even the most basic air pollution protections often becomes a years-long arduous fight. Mayor Garcetti has taken a significant and important step towards protecting public health and improving California’s air quality. We have the upmost confidence in Councilmember Raman’s commitment to clean air. This is a good day for those of us living in the smoggiest air basin in the country.”
