Coalition for Clean Air Policy Director Bill Magavern released the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s directive to end permitting of new hydraulic fracturing and phase out oil extraction:
“Governor Newsom recognizes that solving our twin crises of air pollution and climate change requires ending our addiction to fossil fuels. While his actions today do not do everything necessary to make that transition happen, they do set in motion the process of managing the decline of oil extraction in California. Coalition for Clean Air will continue to remind policymakers that the millions of Californians living with unhealthy levels of petroleum-fueled air pollution need relief right away.”
