The Coalition for Clean Air (CCA) supports the appointment of Senator Dean Florez to the California Air Resources Board (ARB). Senator Florez is a proven air quality leader. CCA is impressed with his commitment to protecting disadvantaged communities from the adverse impacts of air pollution and climate change. His air quality expertise will be an important asset on the board.
Senator Florez has the experience, knowledge, and commitment to air quality needed to be an effective and successful member of the California Air Resources Board.
Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin De Leon made the most of his opportunity to appoint a member to the Air Resources Board.
The appointment of Senator Florez, who served in the California Senate from 2002 to 2010, was made possible by AB 1288, legislation authored by Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins that added two seats to the ARB for members representing disadvantaged communities. On February 4, 2016, Speaker Atkins appointed veteran environmental justice advocate Diane Takvorian to the ARB. Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin De Leon appointed Senator Florez today.
